Monero. It solves, or at least drastically improves, two real problems which are plaguing both Bitcoin and other altcoins -- privacy and fungibility. It is also one of the most decentralized altcoins. While there were instamine accusations, there was at least no overt premine.

There are also historical reasons: XMR has performed better in past bear markets than most other altcoins, and is the only older altcoin from pre-2020 which are relatively close to their previous ATH in this cycle.

The community is active and constantly develops new decentralized tools to counter the delisting on CEXes. This shows that despite there being some regulatory risks, there are also solutions.

What is an alt in your mind and definition?

Altcoin is alternate or alternative cryptocurrencies which imply all cryptocurrencies that are not Bitcoin, should be considered as altcoins. With this classic definition that does not need to be changed by anyone, Ethereum is surely an altcoin, in the past, the present and the future.

What project has the tech, the team, and the community to actually survive and come back stronger? Which coin are you betting on when all the hype and tourist money disappears?

If I have to pick an altcoin to hold, it is Ethereum, and if you force me to pick another one, it's BNB, nothing more to hold in my cryptocurrency bag. Other altcoins are shitcoins that are very weak and vulnerable to death callings from bear market.

Let me say it clearly too. Bear market is not cause of altcoin deaths and the reason is actually from their founders and developer teams which don't have enough capability as well as dedication to keep their projects alive over time.

It's better that you move this topic to the altcoins board because that's where it belongs to. First of all, the bull run is not over yet and until bitcoin dips to $40k before I can agree with you that the bull run is over. Secondly, I don't see any altcoins that is worth investing into since you can't predict their future, and they're more like gambling to me. I stick to holding only bitcoin. I will buy more Bitcoin in the bear market.

To be sincere I can't really tell since the lifespan of altcoins are mostly short term.
I'd pick Monero for being decentralized and the need for privacy hasn't died yet in fact it is needed now more than ever.
So it has a reason in being bought rather than hype.

Bitcoin is the only coin that is not an altcoin. Every other coin aside from Bitcoin is an altcoin.
I am the type of person to limit my risk as low as possible in the crypto-currency space so if I wasn't going to take Bitcoin my next pick would have been ethereum but according to you that is also out of the question.
Well I will go for BNB because they have been doing well and they have actually withstood some difficult bear market and have to an extent proven themselves.

Nice move. This avoids being hit by the crypto winter if it comes. And this allows to have a better flexibility during that time and we're free to buy at any level or price for the desired altcoin that we want to buy.

But why do topics like this always like to remove Bitcoin as a choice when it's always been the smarter choice than the others?

Many of us will do this choice after having the budget to buy converted into stablecoins. It's not just a wise move but also an economical move every bear market.

Probably HYPE because it has real use case, real user, real volume, real profitable vaults and so on.

The other altcoin are just selling narrative, but HYPE value really derived from the fact that the DEX was such a success and I expect DEX to only grow bigger and bigger.

This is great. While others are selling at a loss during a bear, you there is still selling for a profit. This is a real definition of a win-win situation. But "the best strategy" can depend on the coin and some coins do well in the long-term.

Others might feel sad because you don't share those good alts you are talking about but I think you are also protecting them because it is also possible that if more people know about them and profits with them, their powers will eventually worse off . Another thing can be positive here is that you won't look like you are shilling them because these alts are probably less known. The same type of alts/tokens that are being shilled the most.

In my opinion, all coins with the exception of Bitcoin are alternative currencies, so I think I would go for Ethereum, which is pretty much a time-proven coin when comes to bear markets and also bull markets.
Either that, or I would simply swap all my alt coins for stablecoins like DAI, which is the most decentralized one when compared to USDT and USDC.

Also, there is the possibility of going all in with Dogecoin, which always seems to come back in the bull market reaching new highs, thanks to the enthusiasm of its holders and meme fans. But it would be a risky move, indeed, compared to Ethereum and Dai.

Probably UNU SED LEO, because it's not just the tech or team behind it that is valuable. Even with best tech there's just not enough use cases to justify price getting any higher, nor it's even optimal when it needs to be cheap to use. UNU SED LEO probably won't be lifting off with rest of the alts next time, but it has intrinsic value and tokenomics actually make sense, compared to most investments. And there's legal commitment for the buyback burn mechanism without some 50% max cap in it. I am honestly quite baffled why more people aren't into that. It's not normal crypto that is solving anything, but it's not supposed to be.

When looking at what coin/token to choose, I will have to know what exactly I'm going to be looking at, like the team behind the project and what they have to offer. Do they actually have full control and can decide how I spend the token I hold for a long time? Can they migrate and leave old holders in the dark to suffer a fate they did not prepare for? Well, if I'm to think about that, I will likely go for XMR, a privacy coin with so much to offer. Irrespective of how governments have been after and against it, it still retains a high value in the market, and with time, when there are fewer attacks on privacy tools, it will flourish more than it is right now.
