Hello everyone!

I am planning to use LN when on vacation in a few months and would like to know which Lightning Network wallet to use.
I want it to be as simple as possible, cheap, fast, and with good connection to other nodes. I am not that worried about custodial LN wallets and the general dangers of custodial wallets because it is not going to transfer a lot of money.

I have narrowed down my choice to either Wallet of Satoshi or Phoenix Wallet.
The first is custodial, the other non-custodial.

Which of these would you recommend? Wallet of Satoshi claims it is free to receive and send LN in most cases. Phoenix Wallet is a bit more expensive.

Have you used one of these and what is your experience? Are they costly? Makes no sense to pay a lot in fees for small transactions.
How common are failed payments?

Do you know of cases where Wallet of Satoshi has locked anyone out from their BTC and asked for KYC or confiscated their money?

If you want to suggest that I use another LN wallet then please do.

Thanks in advance!

I don't think lightning network wallet is actually a thing though however what you should be asking is a suitable wallet that supports the use of a lightning network and I would suggest ELECTRUM. This is because it's an open source wallet and is also relatively easy to manage as long as you are able to set up a lightning connection.

I haven't actually heard of wallet of satoshi but the thing is lightning network has fees too but the difference is they are smaller than on-chain fees.
Also make use of lightning network for small transactions only for your safety.

The best lightning wallet out there is Phoenix but I like Zeus, but I will like Phoenix to be used or try both. I have used the wallet before but I am not having any bitcoin on lightning network again for now because the mempool is not really congested as it was before few months ago. I know about Wallet of Satoshi and how the fee can be very low but it is a custodial means of holding bitcoin on lightning network than Phoenix. I I will suggest you use Phoenix

I think OP is still finding it hard with the use of wallets that support lightning network, he may not know much concerning setting up wallets like Electrum since it requires more skill, for a start BlueWallet can be a good option for him as it is simpler to set up using a few clicks and still for minor transactions.

Wallet of Satoshi isn't randomly mentioned in the forum, i don't think the majority of users want to use it when there are other options especially since it is custodial. it is better to use wallets that are less complicated and something majority of people know about in case of some error, they can be helpful.

Electrum is not newbie friendly and requires a longer setup process than I would like. You guys who recommended it, have you ever used it for LN?

Agreed, intermediate users maybe.
It must be because Electrum is widely recommended (for on-chain) and read somewhere that it supports lightning.

Personally, I've used it and I'm pretty much pro-Electrum
But I do not recommend its Lightning feature to newbies unless the person is really interested or insisting.
I just give them thorough explanation of the steps and the necessary "management" of the channel(s) and its liquidity.
This usually cause second-thoughts on using Electrum's lightning, at least, they are now well-informed of what they're trying to get into.
Then its up to them to decide to proceed to not.

I don't have other recommendations for you though.

Believe me, Electrum is the top choice among open-source wallets that support the Lightning Network.
I believe the best approach is to find some research that guides you on how to use it effectively.  While it can be good if you grasp the process, you will definitely enjoy it while learning.
Here's a thread that will help you, Electrum Lightning Network walkthrough.

Do you know of cases where Wallet of Satoshi has locked anyone out from their BTC and asked for KYC or confiscated their money?
The best lightning wallet out there is Phoenix but I like Zeus, but I will like Phoenix to be used or try both.
Hey, why didn't you recommend your thread?
Lists of open-source bitcoin lightning wallets
So that OP can compare which is the better one, BTW, it's a nice thread, very informative.

Are you using Electrum lightning network? I have used it before. I have also used Phoenix and some other ones before. Electrum is a more way to let people understand lightning network is but Phoenix is better for newbies. Some people also will have an issue if they use Electrum because of their newbie understanding. I will still prefer to recommend Phoenix and even Zeus.

Hey, why didn't you recommend your thread?
You are right, I suppose to recommend that thread. Although I recommend two best wallets there but there are others too.

I prefer my LN wallet to be as simple as possible and that is why I have not considered Electrum. What would you say are the pros of Phoenix compared to Zeus and the other way around? Same question for cons. Why would I opt for one over the other?

I did not use the wallet for long. The one I used for long is Phoenix and that was because I prefer it among others which is the reason I recommend it first on this thread for you. You can use both and choose one but just like I have said before, I recommend Phoenix. You will like the wallet. The wallet will automatically open a channel for you very easy and you can easily know how you can close the channel.

Thank you Kruw! Have you tested any other LN wallet or would you recommend I make Phoenix my first choice?

I've used several others like Zeus, Blixt, Mutiny, and LND as a routing node. Phoenix is by far the most reliable.
