Title: Copy and Paste QR codes for Receiving Addresses Post by: OROBTC on April 25, 2025, 06:12:42 PM ...
I am new to Electrum and I like it so far. There is a way you can set-up (4.5.8 ) a wallet to receive "1" addresses as well as "3". Which I like. My question is how can I copy & paste the QR codes for my Receiving Address? I could not figure it out via the Receive tab nor the window there. This does not appear to be addressed in the Help documentation either. Thank you for any suggestions! :) Title: Re: Copy and Paste QR codes for Receiving Addresses Post by: OmegaStarScream on April 25, 2025, 06:18:14 PM You should be able to do it from here (although, I'm using an older version so it's possible that somethings might have changed since then):

In the newer version, you should go to "Addresses" tab, instead. To OP: Go to "Addresses" tab and double click on any of addresses you want. (If you don't see "Addresses" tab, click on "View" at top of the window and then check "Addresses".) After that, click on the "QR code" button at top right side of the window and you will see the window displayed above in OmegaStarScream's post. Thank you hosemary, your procedure worked! :) My version is 4.5.8. The other work-around I found (unattractive) was to go to one or another of the free make-your-own QR Code sites. I tested one of them with a throwaway address, and my cellphone camera read it correctly, but still... I have a lot more confidence in Electrum's own way to make a QR Code. I like two other things about Electrum: 1) I have the program on flash drives as a Windows executable (allowing me to just bring that (traveling) assuming someone will let me use their computer) 2) Electrum allows "batch payments", so I can save a few sats when sending out BTC to several others Title: Re: Copy and Paste QR codes for Receiving Addresses Post by: Abdussamad on April 26, 2025, 08:55:20 AM It's dangerous to use your wallet on other people's devices. You don't know what sort of malware those devices might have.

I assume you have a smartphone, and if you believe it's secure enough, you can always do your wallet recovery on it. Of course, this way you take on additional risk, the only question now is whether that risk is greater or lesser than using someone else's computer that you're not sure is infected with malware. Thank you Abdussamad and Lucius for the warnings on using a flash drive on other people's computers. With so much malware out there targeting money / $ / BTC / data, it's important to be extra careful. That's unless you're using a hardware wallet. (your post history hints you're using one or two)In that case, the Portable binary on other's PC isn't much of an issue as long as you verify every detail in the transaction before signing it. The connected Electrum is pretty much the same as a watch-only wallet and a malware cannot directly steal the keys in the HW. The worst thing a malware can do in that setup is to change the copied bitcoin address or do some social engineering attacks. You're still not safe "physically" though since you're using your wallet on others' PC. Only use it on people/place that you trust. |
